Elm is nearly as hard as red oak. Basswood is softer than poplar

Elm splits bad though. I was really leaning towards a maple with the straight grain

It cut like a maple but doesn't feel dense enough. Unless it's a maple but not silver.

I'm pretty sure that's what it is. I have quite a few around here. They usually grow in clumps of 3-10 trees

O yeah! People use it for carving. Can put a knife in it pretty easily. I find it some from the flinthills east!

Looks very similar to our catalpa trees. Or it could basswood either way it is more suited for YouTube videos than firewood.

Tilia Americana. 100%. That's bass wood you showed in the picture. It's worthless. Not even good for firewood. It blossoms fairly early in the spring, helping the bees aallot. It's also popular for hand made carvings cause it so soft.
