Don’t have the lottery in Alabama. I personally have only ever bought one ticket when we were coming home from Georgia. Would rather just put that money in savings instead of giving the government more of my hard earned money.

Yup poor people's tax. When they started lotteries here in Kansas the premises behind it was funding schools.

Schools have been underfunded for the last decade. But they did just get done with a billion dollar renovation of the capital building complete with underground parking garage.

Every state that has enacted a lottery under the guise of "tax relief" has gone through the same thing. The first year there will actually be revenue realized from the new income stream. Every year there after taxes will go up because politicians spend the new revenue and count on it. The lottery tapers off after the initial novelty wears off and taxes have to be raised to cover even more spending.

Exactly and here in the last few years we've had state owned casinos open up along with the casinos that were already on the reservation the last 20-30 year on top of the "river" boat casinos dry docked an hour from me and after being open for awhile you here from the state that the casino revenue is lower that expected. I'm not a smart man by any means but I could tell ya that would happen.

Now I might buy a crossword scratch off ticket from time to time if I'm going to the DMV but having the state bank on it people's hopes and possible addiction is flat out sickening IMOP.

Actually from a statistical standpoint, the odds of winning are almost the same whether you buy tickets or don't.

Don't buy ticket, the odds are zero.

Do buy ticket the odds are : 1/320,000,000 or .000000003125

I tried a few online calculators, the first two rounded to zero.

Not to stir the pot but the reason for under funding is the dollar is not making it to the student. Schools are just like our government they waste way to much.
