Just thinking the other day about the 021,023,025 saws. Same family of saws but the 023/025 have a 4mm longer stroke. Was wondering if anyone has tried an 025 crank in an 021 cylinder to make a high compression 021. I’d think even though the 021 and 023 share the same bore using a 021 cylinder and cutting a pop up piston for part of the stroke difference and the rest of the squish would make a nice little running saw. I know its kinda like modding a wild thing but lots of the 021-025 around cheap or free non running, and the longer stroke crank would be the work around to gain compression on a clam shell. Could even make it a build off saw for a g2g somewhere. The 4mm works out to about .160 in.

Might make for a pretty thin piston crown after turning down and trimming the popup to fit. Would probably hafta mess with the timing, too.

Just noticed HLS has that 070 kit on sale for $275.00.
With free shipping it says, still don’t know if the China kit will hold up to milling duty or not, worried it might be a waste of money that I could put towards a good used oem 070/090.

I figured a person would, was just an idea and would need to do some measurements so see if you could take .160 off between the piston and the cylinder squish band depending how loose it is to begin with. If factory squish is 40-50 thousandths already a person might be able to machine enough between piston and cylinder.

Could be a neat little project. May hafta consider that myself on a 021 I have that needs a crank. Still lookin' for one cheap if anyone happens to have one to spare!

Anyone know how old this saw might be and/or would it be worth fixing up and running? It's an unknown to me, hasn't run since 2008 I believe. Its mine if I want it but I'm not sure it would be worth it.
Now if I'm told this was a helluva good little saw back in the day I might be more inclined to fiddle with it!

041 av is a very nice older saw in my opinion, lower rpm 10,000 or so max with good torque. 61 cc and one of the first stihls with av buffers. I’d clean it up and see what it needs looks in nice shape under the dirt. I have a fair amount of parts for them if you need stuff. Also one of the coolest exhaust notes in my opinion.

Great, that's what I was hoping to hear. I'll take a look at it once I finish my current 066 project. Thanks.

I have a bunch of 041 mufflers and started to go through them for a 041 super I’m redoing, to my surprise most of them have a tube that’s 800 thousandths in o.d but I ran across one that was 900 thousandths. The opening into the tube matches the exhaust port on the super better also so in the interest of flow I’ll be using that one.

I know there isn’t a lot of love for the ms 193t’s but after opening the muffler up with a timing advance and good tune they are pretty well liked locally. I will have the a ms 194t in the next few days and after running some gas through it and comparing it to a well run in modded 193t before I start trying stuff with mods on the 194t. According to Stihl it has 6% more displacement and 9% more power than a ms 193t.

Also the 194t has a diagnostic port even though it’s standard carb. Supposedly it keeps track of hours run and starts ect.

Well the not broken in yet 194 cuts pretty even with a muffler mod timing advanced 193. If it gains the same as a 193 did it might be a pretty decent mid size top handle.

price same as the 193 and same skew even, only problem is if you order one it could come as a 193 or 194. That’s what I was told, but I suppose they’ll be a time when the 193’s are gone soon and all you can get is the 194

The 194’s getting better as it’s used, this weekend we’ll know if all the stuff that works with a 193 transfers over. I’m pretty sure it will since I think there’s only a few new parts mostly the piston and cylinder and I’m assuming the coil since it needs some way to track hours and such. I’ll even try to post a video of the 193 vs 194 here if I can figure out how

If you have gmail you have a YouTube account. If not, it's easy enough to set up.

And if you're worried about privacy, the government already knows what you're up to anyway.
