Hi guys. Rookie here with a dumb question or two.. got a 381 with a few tanks through it now. Wanting to know what can be done for a tad more power. Bloody ripper saw, but can you ever have too much power?

The saw went to a right full owner since having a rough previous life. Many things can cause a saw not to oil. Have to break it down and check piece by piece see why no oil. That’s after a good cleaning making sure passageway not plugged with saw dust, wood chips

Someone left this to see if I could find the missing pieces and put it back together for him, what you see is all I have.

Is it worth any time and investment or should I just tell him to let it go?

Does anyone have an IPL so I can at least look into tracking down the missing pieces to try and put a cost estimate together?

Thanks,

Mark

Let me add that I do have the recoil / cover for it even though it is not in the photos.

The 026 I’m working on is the most guttless 26 I’ve ever ran. Even after dumping the fixed high carb, opening the exhaust, decarboning and polishing the exhaust and intake, putting thinner base gasket in because squish was 14 thousandths without. It’s still guttless has about 130 psi which seems a little low, but I don’t know if it’s low enough to completely wreck the saws power.

Maybe new rings and a metal mesh filter is needed?

Yeah 130 is low. I'd be putting a new set of rings in it.

I believe I'd take a pass on that one, Mark. The carb alone is $114 and the rest of the missing little stuff will also add up quickly. A top end is another $260 if it needs replaced, though there are cheap aftermarket alternatives out there as well. 'Bout the only good news is that it uses common 6202 and 6203 bearings. I have an IPL but it's one of the embedded ones in MediaCAT that I've yet to figure out how to compile and save as a PDF. Ray Benson could probably hook you up there.

I do have access to prices if you have a laundry list started.

I’d say looking at it the only part of the saw not original is the clutch cover. That one shouldn’t have a brake to old. Looks like my 075 with the old style muffler guard that almost always got broke. Has white plastic for throttle and operator presence lever that matches the hand guard.

Also has the real old style slotted rewind housing like the 050’s had. My 075 has the newer style rewind with small square holes in it.

Thank Poge, I think I will give Travis the bad news and get that one off the bench.

Ahhh okay! I was wondering why there didnt look to be a broken spot on the plastic where the brake should have attached. Would i be correct in assuming early 70s saw?
