If yours has a one-arm-hinged flag then its early and parts are very difficult to find.
The mid and late variants are completely interchangeable, the only difference is the
desing of the outer cover which looks "curved" in late style as opposed to the more edgy mid style.
Between both all parts as well as the entire cover are interchangeable and as Wilhelm
stated before still in stock.

Some progress with my 7900 Big Bore project:

Fixed the chip guide which had large parts missing with a little chunk of Sikaflex.
Thats a multi purpose PU sealant which I use to glue everything that looks and feels
like rubber. Very great stuff!

Did a little piston work, opened and smoothed the transfer windows in the piston:

Before - after. Especially the smaller windows (left in pic) I have increased significantly.

I finished the muffler mod today.

7900_muffler_2nd_outlet.jpg

Extra outlet on the flywheel side

7900_muffler_deflector.jpg

Self-made deflector in place. I admit the welding could be a little more beautiful, but this is how it is.
The deflector is built so that a spark arrestor screen can be slid between it and the shell.
7900_muffler_birdcage_inlet.jpg

I opened the inlet of the bird-cage and the corresponding opening of the rear shell.

7900_muffler_rebuilt.jpg

Finished muffler with 2nd outlet. Gave it a coat of zinc enamel.

7900_muffler_test_installed.jpg

Installed the modded muffler on my stock 7900. The hood needs a little clearance but other than that it fits pretty well. No conflict
with the hinge of brake-flag.

Next step probably will be the Poleman-fix for the carb.

This afternoon I fired up my 7900 with the modded muffler installed.
It is not as loud I was afraid it would be, rather it has a moderate gain in noise level.
Idle sound has definitely gained volume in the low frequencies range now more
sounding like a 143 idling. That's a great outcome, I had been afraid of the mod
producing a level of noise rendering the saw unusable.
I had such a result once with a 115 muffler-mod forcing me to undo much of the too
offensive openings.
The current mod for my 7900 big-bore is very satisfying, perhaps I'll do a similar
mod for my stock 7900 as well.

I have decided to replace the broken crank with a SOLO one which will add 2 mm
stroke resulting in 87 ccm displacement, making the saw a wish-there-would-be PS-8700

I’ve had pretty good luck with muffler mods on the dolmars. Haven’t had issues with the 111/115/520 mods. They always sound healthy.

Are you doing mig, tig, or brazing they mufflers?

The solo/dolmar will be a monster!

Yeah, that won't work very well! kopfschuetteln.gif

Send that botched up thing to Sondre, he'll take care of it one way or the other, and I will send You a new stock muffler so You can try doing a better job! rolleyes.gif

You're lucky then. This is what I did with mine and it rendered the saw unusable:

115_mufflermod_1.jpg
Drilled some holes at random into the inner shield...

115_mufflermod_2.jpg
...added a set of bores to the back side of the strut...

115_mufflermod_3.jpg
...widened the original outlet and added a second one.

115_mufflermod_4.jpg
Looks quite good IMHO...

115_mufflermod_5.jpg
... and especially when put in place.

However, believe it or not, that thing would deafen your ears. I didn't even try to cut with it, just fired up the saw and found her unusable.

I guess my mods have been on the later 520i series that have the front directional baffle as seen below.

I raise the downward directional baffle and increase opening size without opening the can itself. I will probably revisit this later and open one of these mufflers later this winter when I build one with closed port cylinder and probably a slightly larger carb. I’ll get a pic of one of my mufflers here in a min.
