View attachment 206495 Working on a plan for a pair of mufflers for the 3.7. Probably open the factory outlets on this one to full triangles and dremel the baffle to be wide open. The 2nd one will have the baffle the same and gills on the side. Maybe close the factory outlets on the 2nd one.

Sweet. That will be a nice mod. I'm gonna drill out mine some more, I already removed the outlet cover so it's wide open. I kept the spark screen. I'm gonna paint in in BBQ high heat black paint too.

20191027_113620.jpg 20191027_121205.jpg I blasted this one inside and cleaned it up nice. Had some rust inside and I didn't want anything to come loose and hurt the saw. Will probably blast both of them inside and out when the mods are done. Leave the inside bare and high temp black the outsides.

Dont have any pics of mine, but did the same thing on the outlet spacer. Just cut a flap in the right side of the can and opened it so the exhaust blows out forward and slightly right. Kept the screen.

PO of my first 3400/3700 had drilled 9 holes through the front of the muff, was loud and would char the wood bark when I was cutting. Took the muff off and welded the holes back up and modded the baffles and enlarged two rear oultlets.

20191107_161900.jpg here are 2 of my super xxv the one on the right was bought by my dad and given to me for Christmas in 1979. It has been setting since the early 90s and I dug it out a couple weeks ago and cleaned the carb and replaced the fuel line and it is running great. The other one I bought from a friend 10 years ago or longer and never done anything with it until a couple weeks ago, cleaned a carb from a parts saw and replaced fuel line and it is also running and cutting great. Love these little Poulans. Also have my dad's craftsman 2.1 cubic inch saw it needs a little more work but it did fire by dumping gas in top of carb so it is on the bench now. Hope this is not to much rambling sorry for the long post.

No such thing as rambling. Always nice to hear the history of a saw.

A couple of pages back I mentioned looking for a cosmetically nice Wild Thing for display in the museum along with my McCulloch XM40. I took a look at e-Bay and made an offer, seller countered and I got this.

I will give it a good cleaning and put it on display along side the XM40, might be the first two saws to go up on the newly installed shelving.

Those are some of the best small saws ever made. My grandfather had one in Craftsman colors and heated his home with it for years until he died. I recently bought a nice example from another member here, gonna display it in the garage as a tribute to grandpa.

It always amazed me how they put "for occasional use only" on the manuals for those. Talk about no faith in the product you are selling. Especially considering that those are very capable saws for what little they cost, I've probably spent more hours with the 2050 and 2150 than all others combined.

I've got a 4018wt, it gets used just like any other saw I have.

I curious why you guys are making the rear outlets bigger instead of adding ones to the sides. It just seems like unrestricted exhaust heat will be concentrating on the back plate heating it up more making more heat towards the cylinder and top cover.
There's nothing like the 3400-4000 frame Poulan sound, expecially with the muffler opened up! Yours sounds great!

Honestly I just looked at it and went that looks easy and went with it. I have a second muff I'm gona do the baffle the same and put a 1" or so slot in the clutch side.
