Who’s got the detail, ipl, or whatever to show how the DSP comes apart on a PM850?

My Grandfather gave me a rash of Chit for buying a McCulloch.

He used to race against McCulloch Powered carts in the 60s, & ran a few saws & hates them.

I told him I understand most models were great saws if a fellow spoke McCulloch.

Evidently he didn’t.

You either like them or you don't but you have to remember when they were made .In light of the time period they were about the best made .
The kart engines just about dominated the golden era of two cycle karting .Try and find an engine today or the parts. It's like looking for a needle in a hay stack.
I've got a back burner project rebuilding and enhancing a super 44 that Dan Henry sent me as well as two 5 gallon buckets full of parts .I have no idea where Dan is as I haven't seen him on line in several years .I hope all is well with him .

Mac15 will rattle your bones and numb your fingers.

DSP (#28) on the 850 comes out with a 7/16" deep socket. there is an 8-32 SHCS below the DSP valve (#30) that should be removed then use a drill bit in your fingers to clean out the passageways.

I don't know of any good way to disassemble the DSP valve itself but I have had some success cleaning then and polishing the seats with some valve lapping compound or toothpaste.

The little mac was a 110 with 12” bar. Full 025 saw not just parts 75$ so still happy even if the mac 15 is pretty much worthless.

Mac 15 wouldn't be worthless. They make a nice man cave ornament. Cool looking old saw, usually bring 50 to 75 bucks on ebay.

Turns out what I’m reading the 110 is a pretty hated model. Runs well or not at all and pain to work on. The mac 15 is real nice has almost all the factory paint on it. The 110 is ok and the Olympic 264 is pretty nice. 025 needs work but I have lots of Parts still think I did ok for 75$.

If you ever decide to tear into that 110 this video will save you an enormous amount of aggravation. I think the dislike for these saws stems from guys trying every which way but the right way to tear one apart. Pretty simple, really. All of em are pretty much the same except the PM6.

Every so often a nearly new saw comes up .I have three, one of the last Mac 10-10's ever made and a 105 that had the original chain and had sat since nearly new in a shop in Wisconsin with a broken recoil .The 805 I stuffed an 850 engine in had the original Mac branded chain that had never had a file used on it .

Mini Mac saws with the removable starter are not bad to work on. The original Mini Mac 6 with the starter as part of the flywheel housing are difficult to work on; on those you have to pull the starter rope out a foot or so then align the fins on the flywheel with the starter pawls as you slide the engine out. Challenging.

Thanks for the mini Mac video, doesn’t seem that bad. Not really any worse than a homelite super 2.44D6996F-5447-4A91-B38B-770CB47F0ED8.jpegB96C041E-CE20-423D-82AD-B6A2DDBBF02D.jpeg
My dirty pro mac 610, think it weighs as much as the Mac 15.
