The dye job looks good. I have mixed feelings on dying a 550.

I actually had all the plastics from my scrounging so I just dyed the spares and put the originals back in case I ever wanted to go back. But I tell you, if you saw it in person you would never want it to be orange again.

The only downside is dark colored
Saws may be easier to loose/run over.
But they look nice

O agree, but I'm just cutting firewood. I'm not a pro logger or arborist, just a guy that likes working on saws and doing something different. I can't port a saw, but dang if I can't make it sexy.

Make sure you clean the plastics really well. Oil and dirt buildup can cause the dye not to take. Is there a 550 equivalent in jonsered?

The other downside is when your cutting in the dark not only can you loose fingers/limbs but your saws as well. I think they turned out pretty good!

Thing about it is that it's already red and black, which is pretty dang good looking as is. I guess if you went ahead and dyed the tank starter and carb base then the red would be like a racing stripe.

Looks good. Does it hold up to scratches/scuffs? Also makes me wonder if you could use an orange dye to brighten up some of the faded old tri color husky plastics.

What are you doing to keep the dye from sticking on the recoil stickers?

It holds up to scratches as well as any plastic would. The dye goes pretty deep and I let it boil a little longer than is probably necessary hoping it goes deeper.

The dye actually won't stick to most of the decals like the ones on the top cover and recoil. Only thing is that if the decal were to come off it would be Orange underneath. My 350 I pulled the decal off the starter and put a new one on after I dyed it.
