An older feller that cuts a whole hell of a lot of firewood stopped by today. He had a sad sad look on his face. He told me that his little CS450 had blown up on him. In March the saw was three years old. He'd lost count of the bars he'd worn out on it.

Sure enough.....it was toasted. Sorta. The piston was a little scuffed.....but not really scored. Upon closer inspection, I found that the wrist pin bearing was busted up.....

I recommended a new piston kit (comes with the bearing).

But.....he decided that the little saw deserved to be retired. He's out shopping or another saw right now.

I'd fix the 450 and see how much more it had in it. :D

Is the 450 a mag case or same chassis as the 310/370/400? For the record I love the 310 chassis, best small saw on the market IMO.

Echo 450/490 have magcases, adjustable oilers.Other brands like Stihl, Husqvarna, ues a form of plastic case. I'm sure someone will correct me.The bearings on the last to that I mentioned have bearings enclosed in plastic.I don't care what Stihl, and Husqvarna, sell. I will never buy another one.Cheap plastic does not make it in my book. The Echo, CS 490 is one of the best buys for a lot less cost than the competitors.Do I still us these saws? Yes. My 51 is in my truck now.MY 041 is still running strong. The 028 is ready to rock and roll. These are the saws that were made well. Not the stuff that they make nowadays.

That's not true. The Echo cs-450p is a split magnesium case professional design saw. One of the best values in the Echo line.

Here is the ipl of this saw:http://www.echojapan.cz/wp-content/uploads/ECHO_CS-450.pdf

And here is the cylinder:https://www.ermekotrade.ro/cilindru-motoferastrau-echo-cs450-echo-cs450p/p/5077#slide3

I am far from expert but this seems a clamshell desing to me,nothing against Echo,i have a cs 490,a cs 590 and a RMS 420 TES.I have never had a CS 450 in my hands, only what i found on the internet.

You are so wrong. Why not check the ipl?

Looks similar to husky 350 as per the ipl... good news... compression can be increased easily. :)

I did offer to repair it. He felt that it would be to expensive to repair considering the replacement cost.

Smart man. Echo parts can pricey in a hurry.

What did the gentleman get as a replacement?
