Like to start this off with a thank you to Mastermind for posting some of his tricks on carburetors. Now to start I didn't want to pop this in his thread and get it all cluttered up so here we go I took a trick that he did to a carb and applied it to a carb I bought thinking that I would get what the photo showed Haha Yea guess again so knowing that this carburetor would run way lean I figured what the heck try it and see if it will help any. I did the typical mods but with this type of carb your pretty limited. Now I'm going to try this one on my second ms660 and it's got a good amount of port work done on it and should be a very strong saw but I have my doubts on the carburetor but if it doesn't work out I have a good one on stand by. Lol. IMG_20180916_112726.jpg IMG_20180916_121658.jpg IMG_20180916_121856.jpg IMG_20180916_124031.jpg

Nice work. Why would the carb run away lean? Sorry if it’s a dumb question but I’m fairly Stihlliterate...lol
It's a copy of the Walbro but not as good as some of the other copies this one you can't change the jet for one and the passages are not as good as the others out there I've been tearing into the first one I got just to see what other things I could do to make it flow fuel better up on the top end with out going to crazy but I ordered this carburetor thinking it would be the one pictured in the add but nope. Lol. Luckily Mastermind just happened to share his own tricks on a different carb and I just thought I'd apply it to this stile of carb and see how it it does.

Well she runs and run dang well at that got it really fat at first then it was acting up so leind it out after a tank thru it it doesn't like a lot of fuel at idle the low setting is right at 3/4 out from bottom high side right at one turn out from bottom and it seems to be happy there. It is refreshing to see the craft continually evolving. You never heard too much about modifying your carburetors back in the day, well grinding the choke towers off Holleys and stuff yeah. But on saws....not so much. Really wasn't anything wrong with them then anyhow. Maybe an 044 carb swap onto a starving 026 or the like.

So yes; Thanks Randy and CR888 and all these carb gurus for sharing some vital stuff. With the availability of e85 fuel today it will become more interesting too.

On saws you really cant base too much off of a plug chop because of how the carbs.
