Anyone use these, thinking of buying 1 for my chains, primarily for the over 30" chains. Any thought on them
Thanks

We got one at the shop last year.

It's big advantage is that there's so many ways to adjust it .... takes some time, but works well when you dial it in right.

If you usually have a large number of chains to do, the foot pedal for the clamp works great.

IMHO, for the $$ you'd think the motor would be reversible like the older Tecomecs.

I wouldn’t want to use anything else now that I have mine set up the way I do.
And we have one at work that is just bolted to a wall no vacuum and no additional lights and for some reason I don’t enjoy running it

CBN wheels are must for me

It does a great job on rakers but I haven’t use the supplied wheel on rakers yet .
I stand the head up to 3* and use .404 wheel to knock them down
The plus to this is the .404 wheel is a larger diameter and hard compound and after going through a 6’ chain I don’t see but a little gain in height but still can get the same filler gauge in there
The down side is you have to change the head angle
The supplied raker wheel you leave the head setting the same but my dealer said the compound of the wheel is softer and a smaller diameter
I’m going to try this wheel in a few days to see if I can see the difference for myself

You can see the color difference but at this point I need to try it and see
Stihl even make the pink wheels for Holtec company that they are in cahoots with
They are the only ones they sell there scratcher chains too and the pink wheels
I’m trying to get a pink wheel to see how it compares to the Oregon type

Yeah I can get them for 500 new, really want it for the milling chains
500 Mercian? Good price for a good grinder. Get it. I got two I use and my pops has one at his store. I like it...but never used anything else though.

I do 60" and 44" 404 on mine for folks. Hate doing those.

But maybe I missed the question. I love mine.

Back right side.

The long ones suck!
And ones I was doing the rakers had to be reset ever sharpening
Some times 2-3 passes plus one for the rakers
25$ still wasn’t enough

I've got a USG I bought new at mates rates, took a while to get the hang of it .
Then bought a second hand Oregon grinder because it was so cheap I had to.
In my opinion the USG is better made and a better design.
Whether it is worth the extra money is a call that only you can make. Unfortunately you can only make the call after you have purchased it.
Personally I use the USG for sharpening the cutters and the Oregon for the rakers.
However if I had purchased the second hand Oregon first it does a good enough job that I wouldn't have got the USG to find out it is the better machine.

What's your power Nighthunter?
We get 240 volt with a 3 pin plug. Why won't Stihl sell the grinder there? Just the power supply issues?

I’m probably just too ingrained to the Oregon/Tecomec types but... what I can’t seem to get used to is that, like a lot of stihl stuff, the USG is set up different/opposite/backwards of virtually everyone else. Just because, I guess.

And because it has no reverse, to me it’s useless for rakers. I use a dedicated cheapy model Tacomec that has reverse for that anyway.

They may hold up better for commercial use but for my own purposes I wouldn’t have bothered if I hadn’t gotten it for a price I couldn’t refuse. A 511ax will do everything it will or more...

I just put one of those blue ceramic Oregon wheels on mine, easy to adapt due to the small arbor size of the usg, just a little washer required.
Not much time on the wheel but I like it well enough so far, though I like the cbn better and seems like $ for $ a cbn is a better deal for the long haul.
