Stihl trimmer made in Japan?

i own a Stihl fs66 trimmer/brushcutter and am wondering who made it. I noticed a lot of the older ones I've worked on or used say mad in Japan on them

Don't know about the weedeaters, but the Stihl hand pruning tools sold at my local dealer are made in Japan and are very nice.

Yes have bought wife a set of the hand pruners and a pair of bypass loppers. Loppers made in USA pruners are Japanese

Some of the older stihl trimmers were made by shindiawa, fs80>t25 comes to mind...

Wcorey is right Stihl had several models made by Shindawa , they where the older models, Stihl no longer stocks carb kits so you have to get them from shindawa.

The original Stihl trimmers were made by Tanaka in Japan. I had an FS65AV that was Tanaka. Dead when I couldn't get a carb kit for it from Stihl. Tanaka may have been bought out by Zenoah and maybe Shindaiwa. These things are going on 35 years old. Parts are NLA.

Hitachi now owns Tanaka.
Yamabiko owns Echo and Shindaiwa.

I have an old made in Japan FS88. I can't get a straight amswer as to which Japanese mfg made it. It has been a great trimmer so far. Parts are now non existant through Stihl.
