I had a good friend make these up, he knocks out the cutters from regular stihl skip and replaces them with duro carbide cutters.
The safety, anti kickback of the duro is removed completely.
Great in Aussie hardwood where termites, dirt or black ant colonies are present.

Last pick is the finished product.20220822_163121.jpg 20220822_163112.jpg 20220825_153222.jpg

Cool! That took some work!

Yes lots of work, for the job i bought 3 packets of Stihl joiners (27 total), my friend used those and still needed another 2 packs.
Thats a lot of time on the spinner and joiner.

I keep noting that Stihl Rapid/Picco Duro 3 is a very well cutting chain. ;)

Would have been cheaper to run your saw at half throttle with the full comp than taking out half the cutters and running it at full throttle. :crazylick:

I always run my saws at half throttle, only uses half the fuel and is much quieter.
Hahaha

While I have been using this style chain for some time at work on a 3phase Holtec docking saw its the first time running it on my 572 Husky.

Out testing the chain today cutting Aussie Redbox.
Running it on a 572xp with 8 tooth sprocket and 20" bar.
Ran very well, rakers are untouched so it cut s little slow, will file them down slightly prior to next outing

Do you know of anyone who has done a comparison between a carbide chain and a square filed? They look pretty close in their geometry.
Not close at all, not even comparable!

Stihl Rapid Duro/Picco 3 is semi chisel round ground with a VERY SMALL RADIUS ground under the top plate.

The purpose of a carbide chain is NOT to match a steel chains cutting performance, but rather to prolong service life under certain abrasive cutting conditions!

I went a year, or anything between 50-75 cubic meters of bucking skidded firewood logs before I deemed my factory ground RD3 dull - can't get that durability out of a steel chain.

Generally potential users expect too much from a carbide chain when it in fact is not immune to dulling and failure!
