@thesawincanada and @nohoff... Sounds like you both have worked on the TS500i. In reading the reviews on the Stihl site, it sounds like they had duds in 2013, and even then it sounded like fuel issues.

If I only ran ethanol free gas with HP2 always mixed at 36:1, would that solve most the issues? I have zero chance of trying a 462 compared to the 500i and am leaning towards the 500i. How well is the pump/injector protected against FOD?
FOD?
All that comes to mind is (fudgy old dermatitis) or .....

Researched the freeze point of gasoline and from what I could find it is -40 to -200 degrees f. They said it all depends on blend and that only certain parts freeze at different temps so it waxes like diesel instead of becoming a solid block like water. Most winter blends are good to -70 and gas has a flashpoint of -45. This was what I found looking at various sources and all I know is I don’t care to run a saw at -40 .

View attachment 156749 Running 550XP's here in northern Manitoba Canada at -55 below C (-67F)
They ran fine and no issues with the fuel.
Minus 55celcius is more than extreme for humans

If i can recall correct at -30,-40celcius if yoy spit or your nose runs liquid they are frozen in milliseconds before touch ground.

Any fingers are broken if they are smashed with obstacles

What’s the purpose of using chainsaw at that temperatures? Cutting what for what, whom, why?
