Went to cut wood last weekend and pulled to start the saw and no resistance. Pulled the pull starter off and sprayed some lubricant on the dog and got it to start and ran a tank full of gas, then went to cut more the next day and same thing . The centrifugal force just not propelling dog out to turn saw over to start. Just don't know why it worked a few weeks back and now it doesn't.

The spring cannot be distorted, it has to be strong enough to apply enough tension to kick out the pawl. Take off the starter and just watch things while you pull the rope, it will be apparent.
Put up some pics..

When I had it off last weekend it appeared to be working ok the recoil drew the cord right back in. I will take some pictures and post them.
When I was looked at it the first time I thought I was missing a dog but pulled the starter off of my 025 and it had one. Comparing the two I cannot see a difference other than one working and the other one not?

I was referring to the spring/clip, the pawl is the same on both models.

Ok I see now! I was using the wrong terminology. In the attached MS270 manual there are 2 pawls and both of my saws each have 1 pawl.

That being said the spring clip on the saw that is not starting looks fine but apparently must be a little to tight because the pawl does move as the starter cord is pulled but the 025 pawl jumps right out when it is pulled.

If memory serves me, the 270s I worked on had 1 pawl. Try swapping the clips from the 025 and see if that cures it.

The clip may be bent or distorted. Or maybe there's gunk under the pulley pushing it up into the clip
