I have a stihl ms150t I'm looking at the moment and it's not turning off, I have checked it over and found the earth wire behind clutch cover is loose, the screw has ripped out the thread is have tried to put another screw in and it's now secure thanks to helicoil but the saw still will not turn off. Any ideas from someone who knows these saws better than me.

Thanks

Not to be a smart azz but better not turning off than not getting started.
I have one that runs flawlessly. It has to be something easy. Others will be along that are smarter than me.

Make sure the Start Stop switch is reading Open when on and Zero when off.
If the switch does not read Zero Ohms when in the off position it is either
The switch is not grounded.
The wire to the coil is broken
The switch is just bad.

Ok this saw is still playing up and confusing me. Stripped it down again tonite, checked all wires and have continuity though them from one end to the other and goes to earth, switch looks all good and makes conections to where it should when moved, so I thought the only thing left was coil as i read somewhere on net that these saws suffer from coil problems and knowing the saw has fallen from a tree i though maybe a wire broke inside coil, fitted new one and still the saw refuses to turn off.

Please any other suggestions?

Ok will recheck but everything looks good and when switch is pushed forward I have continuity on both wires.

If you have continuity through the stop switch end to end about the only other thing it could be is a bad chassis ground where it bolts to the case.

Did you use a sealant when you put in the helicoil?

No loctite for helicoil just straight in to body, I shall be getting it back on Thursday as the bloke needed to use it for a job.

Nohoff what should the resistance be?
