Stihl fs40

Guys, I’m a chainsaw guy through and through but my dad has a Stihl strimmer. He’s managed to ratchet the carb screws outta sync.. so I literally have no idea where the screws should be on these damn limiters. Is it easier to pull the limiters off, turn the screws to seat and then tune from there? If so what would the base settings be?

Which version of the FS 40 trimmer do you mean, the old version with Walbro carb (series 4130) or the new version with Zama carb (series 4144). The old and new version have different carburetors with different basic settings. Please have a look on your carb and tell us which model you have. It`s written or stamped on the carb body. With the model description, we can give you the basic setting.

I’ll have a look. Well actually my dads just put the thing back together today. But looking at it without the cover and online it’s definitely a 4144 version.

The basic setting without caps is H=1,5, L=1 for the C1M-S145C, C1M-S207 and C1M-S226A. With caps in place it is H=3/4, L=3/4 for the C1M-S145C, C1M-S207.
