I ordered an air filter from my local Stihl dealer, because I wanted OEM quality. I opened it up when I got home last eve. I am pretty sure it is an aftermarket filter. Do all the filters have the Stihl emblem stamped in the plastic somewhere, or a part # of sorts? Ive seen them try this with fuel lines before. Ill take a pic this eve. The filter is for a 192T.

Every stihl part less some tank vent rubber bits and gaskets I have found a Stihl logo somewhere. Fuel lines, filters, everything.

If Stihl put their logo on this $2.00 cap, I would think they would an air filter...

The thing is ive been loyal to this dealer for yrs and they have always treated me right. I am sure if I cause a stink, they will make it right. 192 filters aren't clamshelled. I think it looks a lot like a STENS filter, not the nice mesh pattern of the Stihl filter.

I asked the same about flippy caps also. Claim to be OEM. I never complained cause they charge me the same as aftermarket caps online.

It should have an orange and white label on the bag if it is OEM. It would have the stihl part number on that label. Well at least every part I have ever ordered from dealer has that label on it.

That bag and label is how it came. I assume sometimes they order in bulk and repackage for individual sales.

What do you think? OEM or aftermarket filter.

Not OEM, all OEM Stihl parts come packaged with the Stihl logo plastered all over, at least here in Canada, done so they can charge 4X more for any given part. The dealers have access to suppliers like Tilton, Rosa, Stens etc that sell replacement parts that are of good quality but that filter smacks of Chinese quality.

Check inside near the hole the stud goes into. On the vertical section there will be a Stihl emblem if OEM it may be covered by flicking material though.

Does anyone have a pic of an OEM filter for comparison. Preferable ending in 1600.
What this boils down to is this is a 17.00 "OEM" quality filter that my customer wanted specifically. But I feel like I am putting in a 8.00 aftermarket and cheating him. Making me look like the bad guy.

Stihl is proud of their parts and clearly identify themselves. If you have doubt it's most likely a knock off.

I do not, however all the stuff I have gotten as of late from my dealer has been clear bagged from blue mountain equipment. Label looks different than what are on mine as of late though. That and I haven’t seen any aftermarketa that had the Stihl 4 letter prefix much less letter modification ID on it.

Got a pic of the inside of the filter?

Stuff I get at the stihl dealer, comes in tan envelopes.

Once and a while, one of them clear plastic baggies, with stihl all over it comes in also. Can see the corner of one peaking threw.
