Alright question for you guys. If I understand correctly the coil on a ms460 with poly flywheel will advance with RPM? What i'm wondering is can I safely put the advancing coil onto a MS440? And will adding the advancing coil get me more timing advance at WOT or will it just make the saw easier to start?

Thanks, Nathan

Just bought a poly flywheel coil for $10 shipped. Anyone have any information about the pros or cons of putting it on a 440?

I don't see why it wouldn't work and I don't believe that it will advance the timing any further than the standard ms440 coil I put a 044 coil in my ms460 with the poly flywheel runs great.

OK.

No coil can advance timing, it can only do a start retard. That will help with starting.

You should be able to use a 460 coil on a 440. Pretty sure the poly flywheel won’t fit. It’s a different case and crank.

You can advance the timing but still have a decent starter using the 460 coil.

Okay I think that’s what I will do. How much do you recommend taking of the key? The saw is not ported it’s early 044 10mm with newer metal ms440 flywheel.

Thanks,Nathan.

Unported with that coil, bring the key t0 50 thousands. They are 78 stock.

You can try more, if the saw pops back off.

Keys available at McMaster Carr.
