Working on a 361 that got a little warm.
Needs a new clutch drum for sure.
Should clutch pads be replaced or they be ok?
Also got the plastic peace around clutch as well.
What would have caused the clutch to blow out like that.

Running with brake on or pushing on it for a while with a dull chain will do it.

If the shoes look ok I'd run em, springs could possibly lose temper though, stretch them and see if they recover.

I'd do a new clutch, the pads are probably prematurely worn out from all the friction caused by running with the brake on or a severely dull chain. Chain look all stretched out? May have had the chain to tight. Sure sign the brake was on would be scoring on the brake band.

Them pads must have been pretty hot to wear the drum so thin it came apart.

Running a bar too long or trying to loosen a bound up chain with the throttle.

I can almost guarantee you the pto seal is roasted from it.
I wondered about the seal too. I might test that while im waiting for parts.

. . . What would have caused the clutch to blow out like that. . . .
Not a matter of what, but a matter of WHO!

The damage was caused by someone who shouldn't be operating any kind of tools and equipment - period!

My latest saw addition isn't that bad, but came close.
The drum is slightly out of round and I replaced it with a new one. I'll keep the weights for now, see how they behave.

The way that clutch looks like there is more damage than meets the eye!

This old fellow cuts about 100 plus face cord a year.
He cleans his saws but far as going over them and a little preventativ maintnance, he dont really do any. I should tell him to drop his saws off once in a while so i can go over them i guess.

All this talk of "clutches" and not a single "JMS Saws school of clutch repair" joke ?
damn we must be "slipping" here....
get it....

I did a funny there...

Wonder if jms saws would have a use for the old worn out clutch?

Put it in an USC, then take a new clutch off a customers saw, replace it with the USC cleaned part, charge customer for a new used part. All is good.

Then when part doesn't work, blame customer for beating on his saw. User error.
