Stihl 090 Barn find gone wrong

Found this on Kijiji for $125 canadian so a snagged it up no question. I knew it was seized and missing the recoil.

Got it home and finally remembered to take some before pics, thankfully...

Then things get interesting,
Look down the spark plug hole, no piston, interesting...
So i pull the top end to find this land of unholiness... also, no rod:dumb2:

Looking down the cylinder, a couple chunks in the plating, as well as large portions op plating chipped away

Needless to say I think this thing may be a lost cause. I cleaned out whatever the hell was in the bottom end as best as I could and have it soaking in oil to see if I can free it up.

On the bright side the 50" cannon bar seems to be in good shape. A little CLR and some cleaning and it should be good to go

There's tons of parts available for those as well as decent aftermarket top ends. I'd pull that crankcase apart and rebuild it.

Still a great find imo. Rebuild it. Id buy it to rebuild or if its that bad I'd buy it just to make it a handsome display in my shed

I saw that saw on kijiji. I was pretty tempted to go after it but I dragged my feet and it was gone. Good to see it went to a good home.
There's lots of parts around for those saws. I'm sure you can get it all fixed up and going again.

I am in Oro-Medonte, but work in Barrie, it was just a 1 hour drive around the lake for me

I'm with Jacob. Pull it apart and fix it. Stihl made millions of them so parts can be
found weather oem or aftermarket. The bar and chain are worth what you paid you
aren't going to loose. In the end you know what you have.

I am going to try and find time to make a splitter and open the case this week. If it isn't too bad and I can put a stop to the white death I may just build it. I will look for a used top end though I have my doubts. Definately can't afford to shell out $700 CDN for a new oem. Anyone have any experience with aftermarket kits on these?

Huztl.net (Farmertec) has quit a selection of parts for cheap on their website.
I didn't notice any crankcase or crankshaft however.

Might be an option to look into one of those 070s off ebay 430.00 shipped and mix and match with what you have might save you some time anyway sourcing parts I've seen a couple of good reviews.

Just hope you don't need a new crank but I am sure somebody on here might have one if they would part with it.

I've used one of the Bailey's top ends and it was ok. I had to clean up the intake port a bit with my die grinder but it was only about 5 minutes worth of work.
