Just aquired a 064 that has a bad top end. Saw otherwise is in good shape. I read you can put an 066 top end on. Kinda curious as ive never had a 64 or 66, if its worth putting he bigger top end on? Is there modifications that hafta be done? Personally im kinda leaning towards just going back with stock just to see what is has to offer like stihl intended.

Hi, for a 066 top end to fit an 064, the holes on the cylinder base need to be enlarged as the bolt footprint is a bit different between the two.

The 52mm oem top end may run better, unported.

See if you can clean yours up or find a used one.

Im gonna tear down soon, but by looking in the port its pretty trashed. Id like to keep it oem, (the cylinder at least). I dont mind a meteor piston, but im afraid i may need a good used jug. Im leaning towards leaving it stock 52mm. I have other bigger saws if i need them. (056mag) (084). Hell idk it may have a china top end on it now, that'd be swell.

056 mag has been done, not sure worth it. 084 jug would require extensive welding and machining to attempt it.

FWIW, the 54mm 660 jug is a bolt on. The smaller M5 064 bolts will fit into the inner corners of the M6 660 jug base holes without any relieving of the base holes. You’ll likely need longer bolts because of the base thickness. This I can’t recall.

I dod one last year, I’ll see if I can find the thread.
