If you want to set squish just figure out what gasket thickness you need.

Otherwise you can do any of the options you mentioned. Reuse the old gasket, buy an aftermarket (never heard of proline but I have no problems using aftermarket gaskets). As far as sealant goes they would both work, it's just preference.

Im not too incredibly concerned about squish on this one. It is a fairly heavy vintage saw. I’m not trying to build a race saw out of it. I just want it to run again... I didn’t want to stare at a blown up saw. Hopefully I’ll be able to tell friends, “It’s old, but it runs!”

I think I’ll assemble it with the old gasket, and out of curiosity I may check squish. I highly doubt I’ll mod it at all though.

That makes sense. Should be no problem to reuse that gasket. You can always pressure test after assembly to be sure.
