My 026, I bought it used, no idea of the history. I don't know how I stumbled upon a thread about the tank vent but I saw a picture and it looks exactly like mine. That photo...

That white plastic opening with the black rubber/plastic vent with the hole in it at the lower left of the photo... looks just like my saw. Am I missing parts? Do they just fall out?

I saw a mention of Part 23 and Part 24 from this diagram below for somebody's 026. Do I need these parts? My saw is not leaking, does that matter, lol? If I need 23 and 24, anybody know part numbers?

I might also replace the air filter. I saw a youtube conversion from 026 filter to an 026 Pro filter, is that the going thing to improve air flow? I intend to do a muffler mod on this saw, too. Heck, who knows, might get it ported, too, lol.

TIA!

Yes, that diagram shows a few different types of vents. Looks like the numbers you mention 18/19 are parts of the complete vent as well as looks like 18/19/20 are a different type. Grab one off eBay or your local shop. It will just push into that hole

Yup, 23 and 24. You have the valve in there, so it’s not leaking, but you need the other parts so gunk isn’t pulled into your tank.

You only need the newer (uglier) rear cover to convert to the larger filter, or you can just get an oem metal one for around $30. They flow great. The newer nylon oem style flow nearly as well as the metal and filter better, but they need to be oem. The AM ones will not flow.

You’ll need to add the compensating metering cover to your carb or plug the filter hole with a foam earplug and some glue.

Would the part 16,17 tank vent fit in there also?

How do I find parts numbers for #23 and #24?
Where is a good place to order from online?
Do Stihl dealers even carry old parts like that?

Yes dealers will have that part. Probably find an aftermarket or even a used original on ebay

I have an earlier 026 than the OP has. Just replaced all the rubber parts on it and noticed there is nothing in the vent hole so it just spills right out. Can someone point out which parts in the diagram I need?

Thanks, Adam

Also off topic question but I put the late model s shaped fuel line in this because thats what i ordered not knowing it had the straight. Will there be fueling problems if it gets low.

If your fuel tank is translucent then you have a newer tank.
The originals were white.
You'll need the newer tank vent, not the black tower.
