Hi I have a 1998 Craftsman garden tractor and I'm looking for the replacement bearings for the spindles. It has a 46" deck and the spindles with the three bolt mounts. Here is the model and serial number. Can anyone tell me the best place to get bearings for this? Thanks!

You can get them anywhere. And if you need any spindles assembles check out JThomas Parts. I found a mtd yard man pro spindle with pulley for 1/3 of the price of anywhere else and a quarter of the price of what the local guys wanted.

6204 is the number you need. You could call just about any auto parts store and get them. tell them you want sealed bearings. Something else to consider is looking up the part number for the whole spindle alot of times AYP spindles will be cheaper than bearings.

Whole spindle assemblies are cheap and easy to come by. Less labor as well.
I’ve had good luck with the cheap ones.

Last time I replaced spindle bearings, I drilled a hole in the housing, installed a grease fitting. I removed the one bearing seal from each bearing to be able to grease them. I also packed the housing full of grease before I installed the top bearing. Never replaced a spindle bearing again, just shot grease to them every two months of mowing.

Ive had good luck with the aftermarket greasable spindles from Fleabay on my two Murray's. Only thing is, they arent sealed very well and the grease does run out with use. I grease them every oil change and all is good.

Here's the star end...

Decided to just get new spindles. This deck is a used replacement for my rusted out one. It's going to Glock37 to get powdercoated so while that's happening I'll get the parts to rebuild it. Found one spindle on Ebay for $16 shipped! There are many others for under $20 shipped.

That could be a blessing, since you’re doing the whole deck, type deck rebuild kit into an eBay search with your model. Kits include spindles, pulleys, blades, belt and hardware. Usually $60-$70.

I've got a John Deere. One hub with bearings and no spindle costs that much. It sucks

Sorry to hear Kev, I had a Scott’s rider once (bought by Deere) that was the same way. Everything was over $100 or NLA.
