I acquired this Solo 667. It will start and run on occasion then just die. I'm quite sure it's the coil. Does anyone have a 667 coil kicking around they would part with or does anyone know if a 272xp unlimited coil would fit in its place?

Carb is rebuilt and saw has new fuel lines. I can get it to start but it dies and starts intermittently. I inspected all wires and found nothing obvious. It's time to try a coil.

The coil is the PVL one listed below. P/N 2300626.

Your help is appreciated, thanks.

If you can find an electronic coil with the same size lamination you can slide the old coil off and put a "new" coil on the original lamination. Done that with a Mac just to see if i could. It worked! May be a viable option if you cant find something to bolt right on.

Wade - try contacting Chainsawr. Scott was able to get me a coil for a Mac Titan 70 even though nothing was listed on the website.

I have a 667 parts saw but it's deep in storage and it will be weeks or months before I can ever get to it.

Thanks for the tips.

PVL apparently still makes the coil but its $150.
I only bought the saw for $100. So maybe it's worth buying the coil for but I'd hate to buy it and learn it's not the coil (quite certain it is though).

Steve, I'm likely going to try this. The 272 coil looks similar enough that the coil body might fit in the pocket. Did you epoxy the coil back onto the laminated bars?

You can but its teal hard to get all the oil out of the lamination to get it to hold long term. I bent one of the laminatons over the coil to keep it from sliding off.

How did you get the coil off the laminated bars without destroying the coil?

That is where finesse comes into play. Macs use a clip on the lamination so they slide off real easy. The donar coil i put in a vise and smacked the lamination with a hammer and drift. Some coils have a ground strap tack welded to the lamination you have to seperate first.

272 coil fits without to much headache and is unlimited.
That's exactly what I was wondering. The 272 coil body seemed a little bulky to fit in the space though. Wasnt sure just looking at pics of the 272 on the screen. I figured it was worth a try because the AM ones are like $15... How close is the 272 bolting to the solo?

I wouldnt dork with them. I just went through that fitting a coil on Coles 661.

You will need a longer length of plug lead also.

Bottom hole lined up and you can see the top hole right behind the male spade for the kill switch.

Good thing it was a cheap AM coil. I dont thing the laminated core will exchange either. Dimensionally they are too different.
