Anyone got any quick tips for opening up the muffler on an echo 501p? @Miller Mod Saws, @Red97 can either of you guys give me the low down? A buddy of mine just bought one and after running my ported 350/346 and 261 he wants to pursue a louder saw. A little more power would be okay too. :)

Just wondering if I need to uncrimp the muffler and empty out the guts or if I can just take off that goofy cover and cut a big hole. Any help would be appreciated. Also, I just took a quick look, but it looks like a drywall screw will take care of the carb limiters. Am I missing anything there?
Well I would link ya to my build thread but @RedFir Down has got it covered. :b1:

That hole looks a little small....

It's almost the same diameter as the large hole on the other side of the muffler.

Maybe I'll unbraze it and rebraze a bigger pipe in its place...if there's room...one concern was not interfering with the brake lever...

Finished saw. This belongs to a friend of mine. It's been on the shelf for a while. Randy knows it's finished just hasn't seen it yet. I've got some pics of the build I'll be posting in the brand specific thread

Decided to try a Lakeside 361 style muff mod on my 261 since I have a lot of the 9/16" pipe left over. The weld went much better than I thought using my pro mig 140, only burned through a few times and I was able to fill them. The idea behind this mod was using this specific pipe, you can add a spark screen that is used on a TS400, very easy. Part numbers; screen - 4223 141 9000, clip - 4223 141 6600. Not sure if I will ever add one but the saw runs better.

Well, I un-brazed and re-brazed a bigger piece of steel tubing on my 660.
Also tigged on a "V" shaped piece of silicon bronze filler to hold a cone of stainless steel screen inside...

Exhaust port is about 0.944 in²
Net free area on muffler is now about 0.703 in² which works out to about 74% of the port area. Runs stronger and burns more gas.
Bought this AM saw on ebay from a builder in B.C. who upgraded the P&C, clutch and crank, and have been very happy with it.
