What crafts do you like to make? Be sure to post pics....

I have a little homemade forge and like to mess around making things like keychains....

Those are great, Mkinslow! I like the mix of wood and micarta (which handle type is your favorite?)....Bet they're excellent companions out in the woods...
Thank you, I would still go with wood ,micarta is great but working with it sucks lol.

something I've been working on for a few yrs now and its still not finished. One day it will be. Old Craftsman lawnmower with a 300ex motor. It has a steering wheel now with the controls because i hated the handlebars. Even has reverse! On its only test run it did 53 mph.IMG_20151231_151020800.jpg IMG_20151231_151108016.jpg IMG_20151231_151120648.jpg IMG_20151231_151218153.jpg

Bada$$, Agent Smith....dang, you could win every redneck tractor race with that thing....But seriously those are both awesome....What still needs doing on the tractor?
Wiring up the headlights and taillights, and then disassembly, sandblast everything and finally paint

I used to diddle. But it is hard to make money making knives. At least it was for me. So, I mainly gave them as presents.

Those knives look great bud ,I started making better money making knives when I toned down my style, I realized most people wanted a size knife they could use/carry every day and carry it discreetly. I rarely make anything over 6 inches. Unless someone wants a hunting or bushcraft style knife.

Nice looking knives, 00wyk...Your grind lines are so sharp. Yeah, when you put so many hours into something like that, not many people are willing to properly compensate. What handle material did you use on that top one?

The top one is Elk Horn(it gets tacky when it gets wet) capped with madrone/Arbutus menziesii. I think that was the natural color of the wood, too. The bottom one is stabilized American Walnut. The grain is amazing in person. I couldn't capture it well with the camera and not completely over expose the steel.
154cpm stainless if I recall(this is 20 years ago now). 12" long blade. 1/4" thick at the guard. Back then that was a $200 piece of metal in bar stock form, and a Bowie knife eats your belts. The finish is a bit more brushed than it looks like in the pics. 600 or 800 grit I think. A guy local to me did the heat treat and sharpening in one service. What you see there would cost me about $400 in materials and heat treat. Add in time, and I lost money on EBay on the ones I sold. Looking back on it, I shoulda tried to sell them on some knife forums instead. I think I made 5 in all. 2 sold, the rest as gifts. No one wanted to pay more than $500 for them, and there are a LOT of established Bowie makers in Texas I had to compete with. I made a lot of little knives as well. But I never did enjoy those. I preferred to make bowies. Those in the pics are based on a late 1800's Sheffield kitchen knife. They are quick in the hand, but have plenty of mass to cleave through a ham(or arm). In Texas, it is actually illegal to carry one in public. I would rather be shot, myself, than skewered or cleaved with a Bowie.
Compared to those bowies, porting saws is a dawdle.

Heres one of my old race mowers.
We were required to use a mower frame. The engine had to remain "stock appearing" other than exhaust, air filter and required billet flywheel.
This one had a Tecumseh v-twin.

Fastest I had it was 72mph at a banked clay kart track. Most tracks were simply grass fields or grandstand areas at county fairs.
