My mmws MS261
25” stihl skip chain. Hard oak. Not a setup I run. I just wanted to see what it would do with the 25. Second cut was a ugly crotch.

How bout some small saws

This is as fast as I can cut this log with 1/4 .043 chain. It's far from self feeding at that rate, but I get the feeling I'll end up with crooked cuts and binding from lowering the DG's any more expecially with such a narrow bar. That already started happening with an Archer B/C I tried. I figure with chains this small, too low of DG's causes an uncontrollable randomness to how deep the teeth cut causing all kinds of curvy cuts both down the cut and along the bar.

tree service friend of mine who supplies most of the wood I get to cut on called me up yesterday morning. Needed a hand with this maple. ol' tree monkey 661 got a work out with the 60" bar.

edit - this is the same saw Scott was cant racing with, at Iowa GTG.

Does it have an upgraded oiler?

Yea, I figured the 60" would be done by that point, I was concerned how much ground was getting cut with such a long bar at a steep angle (hopefully no ground contact).

8 pin may be not the right combo for work

my friend had never run .404 before. As many of you know 404 RS is pretty grabby. To make it smooth need to almost just let it self feed.

Does it have an upgraded oiler?

no such upgrade available on the 661. At some point (sooner than later) I'll bother Scott to see if he can modify it.

50 cannon on top 60 cannon on bottom. both 063 3/8th

can see the older cannon's oil port vs today's. So that's interesting. My gut feeling is that something in between those two sizes would likely be best.

note - the 60 cannon was an Husky Large Mount. Scotty milled it to 12mm Stihl 3003 mount. 50 cannon is true S1 3003 mount

Reg old school carb. I just realized i left the 8 pin on when I put the 25” on. Not a favorable combo on that saw but I’m proud of her.

Where did you get an 8t 3/8 micro spline rim?
Or did you turn down an old 8t picco rim?

this is a small spline or are you talking about the Stihl micro spline for MS241 etc?

:)
241 comes with a spur. If you order the optional rim setup, it uses the same “micro spline” (as stihl calls it) as the 024/026/260/261 etc. Husky 346/350/545/550 etc, are a standard “small spline” which is not the same as stihl’s small/micro spline drives. It’s slightly larger. Stihl 360/361/440/441/460/461 etc etc use the standard large spline same as Husky 357/359/365/372/390/395 etc.

Just to clarify if I may. Standard spline is smaller than large spline. Large spline fits 066/660, standard spline fits 044/440.
Some 036s are still microspline if it has the smaller 10x13x10 bearing. With the upgraded 10x16x12 bearing and sprocket, they use standard spline.

Most call the sprocket that fits (044, 066, 088, 372, 390, 395) a "standard".

Then there's "small" that fits smaller Huskies, and the Oregon replacements for small stihl.

And then "micro" is the smaller Stihl stuff
