You might be right about that. I remember working on a 66' GT500 with a 427 but don't know if that car was factory or dealer built.

1965 + 1966 only had GT 350s (for the public), + 427s at the track.

The GT-500 came out in 67 (when Ford started putting big blocks in the Mustang). Only 390s in 67, but the 428 CJ came out in the end of 68, and Ford won the NHRA Winter Nationals with that car that year.

Only about 2,200 428 CJ Mustangs were produced, and they did not keep track how many remained Mustangs and how many became GT-500 KR Mustangs (Shelby put the 428 in some of the KRs).

I had one, a 68 428 CJ with 4:30 drag pack option. But it was stock (except for headers) and I considered it slow compared to my 427 and 390 Mustangs. Ended up selling em all when I got married. Did not have a garage for em, and could not let em rust outside. A 68 302 Mustang GT (w/9" rear) was my beater car, and got 18 MPG, real good for back then! I converted it to 4 bbl with a 600 Holley, and gave it real dual exhaust.

Out of the box Oregon square on a 16" 3/8 .050 bar.

For a brand new chain, it needs some tending too.

Tough to tell from a pic, but it looks like it has some beak from the factory, not a smooth grind, and would help it the gullet was cleared. I would also prefer some forward lean so it self feeds.

It does have a slight beak. Not every tooth had the beak. After the cuts, I cleaned up the chain so it looks much better. Ready for NY. [emoji6]
Looking forward to NY, I’m only bringing 2-3 saws. Tiring packing bunch of stuff. I run my chit all the time, looking forward to trying other people’s saws.
