That is correct. Higher Octane ignites at a higher temp, allowing for higher compression, but in the same engine it will burn cooler (but have a longer burn time).

It will only produce more power in an engine designed to use it (or with the proper computer controls).

Which leads to an interesting question ... would a M Tronic saw make more power with high test fuel (by providing more timing advance)???

Stihl generally recommends a minimum of 91 octane stating that the higher octane will run cooler.

Why mess with popcorn if yours runs better?
Cuz it's still a useable cylinder. We all know he ported a strong saw. Possibly stronger than ones I did. But we won't know until I've cussed at every single part on it and figured it out. If it's at least close to a good running cylinder, I don't see a problem with running it
