I understand your line of thought, but I think octane functions nearly the opposite. The higher the octane, the more resistant it is to detonation. And i believe higher octane burns slower

That is correct. Higher Octane ignites at a higher temp, allowing for higher compression, but in the same engine it will burn cooler (but have a longer burn time).

It will only produce more power in an engine designed to use it (or with the proper computer controls).

Which leads to an interesting question ... would a M Tronic saw make more power with high test fuel (by providing more timing advance)???

Stihl generally recommends a minimum of 91 octane stating that the higher octane will run cooler.

Maybe you should just put melted butter in the bar oil tank and see if it makes tasty popped saw chips?

Put the carb on the 661 with my ported cylinder....runs fine. Put Popcorn on....pops midrange but quits popping under load. Gonna pull the saddle and try that

Cuz it's still a useable cylinder. We all know he ported a strong saw. Possibly stronger than ones I did. But we won't know until I've cussed at every single part on it and figured it out. If it's at least close to a good running cylinder, I don't see a problem with running it

It may be a jms cylinder, but someone paid for it. Hopefully it can be fixed.
