got some round chains and some square chains. 28" .404 stuff. I want to do some sort of gauntlet of testing on them. So what comparisons/tests should I do?

cut times? on cookies AND noodling I assume.
try to come up with something where I do cuts with them until they go dull?

throw me some ideas!

update: did some testing and this is what I came up with. Thinking of doing some more. Give me more ideas.

Doing some reading over at madsen’s they mention that 404 can be a bit rough (vibratey)

For square i would think that would depend on the wood, the angles of the cutters and the rakers, if they’re flat dressed or angle dressed.

The round chain (especially with your USG) should have less options for the angles?

Again thanks for doing this, really appreciate it

All bull crap aside you have most of the types of cutting covered. I would think normal cutting is where most interest is .

Agreed, I mean we know the limbing is insane with 404 and I can’t for the life of me figure out how to test that.

Maybe some testing with a buried bar vs unburied.?

I watched a few fellers mill a large elm with dual 661's with square 404. After several slabs the chain still felt fresh to my touch. I was amazed.

404 has loads of meat on the bone. I had a hard nose bar I ran semi chisel 404 on that could go for an insane amount of time before I thought it needed touching up.

I heard cutting palm tree trunks is very tough on chain because of the embedded sand and many people use carbide cutters.

[QUOTE = "Redbull661, post: 783682, membro: 353"] ha ottenuto alcune catene rotonde e alcune catene quadrate. 28 ".404 cose. Voglio fare una sorta di guanto di prova su di loro. Quindi quali confronti / prove dovrei fare?

tempi di taglio? su biscotti e pasta presumo.
provare a trovare qualcosa in cui faccio tagli con loro fino a quando non diventano noiosi?

lanciami alcune idee!

aggiornamento: ho fatto alcuni test e questo è quello che mi è venuto in mente. Pensando di fare ancora un po '. Dammi più idee.
