Never heard of different rod sizes on these. Are you sure your piston is for a 670?
Looks like you are correct. The piston's number is 503 50 27 02 and is 52mm. Funny, has 670 written on it so I thought it went with the jug.

May be an echo 670? No idea. You need a 50mm windowed piston for a jred 670 or a 268xp. Meteor or oem would be my choice

A little farther along.cut jug.jpg jug 1.jpg 19.5.jpg Had to grid the side of the jug,it hit the fly wheel. Not to pretty. Ended up with the 19.5 with a gasket for squish.

Very interested in how this runs. I was debating on doing some machining on the 670 I have built. I'm still waiting on parts so I suppose now is a good time

503-5027-02=281=52mm. I've got a pretty nice 670 Champ. Don't understand why you had to grind side of cyl. I have a bunch of theis series 266-272-61-66 never saw clearance issues. Have several extra OEM & Meteor pistons. PM if interested.

Thanks for the heads up on the piston. Dropped the jug a bit to get the 019 with the gasket.

I forget how much I machined from mine. I had no clearance issues either. Either way it should run real good. I am surprised that more people are not interested in this build. These are awesome saws and there is a ton of them around.

I built a few of these and I did run into a tight fitting piston once, after I made sure it was the right piston I used a flat file on the piston to make it fit.The machine is still running fine.

I took .035 out of the squish band.Had I not cut the base to fit the gasket, then the flywheel may have been OK. I still may open the muffler more. I only took the baffle out.muffler 2.jpg

I love the performance of gills I'm sure it will have plenty of flow. Mine don't have that style muffler only a flap in and a cover/deflector.
