If you are traveling on the road, you may want to put some horse panel on the sides like I did...see post 92. I just used tie straps to secure them. I lost a split and saw it bouncing 3-4' high in the on-coming traffic lane. It would have went through a windshield no problem if a car was coming.
I'm only gravel traveling, about 6 miles. I do stack it so pieces can't come out. I'm usually following it in my Ranger that tows the splitter home anyways, so I can pick up anything that falls out. :)

Was out in the timber Saturday after other plans fell through. Had this burr oak cut up this spring, but didn't get around to splitting it. Got it split and in the trailer, hauled home and in the basement it went. Was some very heavy stuff!! Couldn't get the trailer close enough to the splitter, so had to cart it. No reason to put the last cart full on the trailer, just left it and dumped it right in front of the window to the basement.

Got a little wood cut up today! Dad and I took the tractor and cut the limb back then bucked it up and split it.

A guy at work had this pin oak taken down, it was hit by lightning and starting to go bad at the bottom. He had the tree service that took it down leave the firewood. It was away bigger than he mentioned and well I couldn't get it all on the trailer. There's about a small pickup load left. It was some very heavy stuff too! Gave the 661 a good work out as well as my 441. Hope to get it split this week and drying out for next years batch.20161031_151525.jpg

My neighbor had a big oak hit by lightning. It went down the tree, into the ground, into the sprinkler system, into the sprinkler unit on the wall in the garage, and into the house. It killed the tree, blew up the sprinkler system pipe, blew the sprinkler box off the wall in the garage (pieces all over the cars), and fried a couple TVs, computer and microwave. Lightning does some crazy stuff.

#3, the back 3rd of the trailer was a white oak blowdown near the big red oak:

#4, the big boys:

#5, glad to see this one finished. These are a challenge, but would like to cut smaller trees if possible.

Hinerman amazing how much firewood is in those big ole trunks. But I am starting to agree those real big ones are almost too much of a hassle
Especially if they are real green.

Went out Saturday, nice cool morning, to finish up a red elm I cut up a week or so before hand. I needed 3 more rows in the basement to be full for winter. I got way more then needed, but I'll find room for it. Snapped a few pics during the day, and as it filled the shop at the end of the day.20161112_092218.jpg

Now I can maybe get a start on winter projects................once the shop is cleared out. Anything that's cut now this year, will be for next year.

Not much scrounging on this forum. Here is the last of the red oak tree from above. Still have other oak trees to harvest. Working on 3 pecans and a hackberry also:
