I've recently struck up a deal to haul off a local mill's scrap. They deal with larger timbers so what they can use from a log is less than a typical mill which is a plus for me. The length of each piece ranges from 14'-20' so there is a lot of wood in each slice. The sawyer sets aside anything of any size for me and lets me know when he's got a load worth picking up.

I added some stake sides after this load and that made loading and unloading much easier.

I also fill my bed with random cut of chunks.

I use my tractor with clamp on forks to unload and stack it.

My pile as of now. Saw on the pile for scale. I have it placed on some beams to keep it off the ground. I keep it mostly covered with plastic. I won't be burning this until next year at least so even if it gets wet here and there no big deal. It'll still season.

I may use some of the wood for other things than firewood. I kept one piece off the pile and made a mantle out of it. It'll get stained to match the other beam, but i'll need to cure for quite some time before I finish it. Not too many better places to dry a piece of wood out though.

A small gathering of Black Locust.
I'll take it whenever I can get me mitts on it!!
Older lady & her daughter actually paid me a few bucks to be shed of it.
Nice folks, even though they burned 2 thick, "hog-legs":monoloco::nusenuse: while I chunked locust in the bed!
Kinda weird feeling...expecting Five O to roll up @ anytime!:qmiedo:
Anywho...I made it out clean and with a hook-up for 3 locust trees in the near future...if they don't catch a case!:private::susurro::cop1:
I mix locust with my hickory , oak, and pecan, and get some long burn times/crazy heat!:campeon::firedevil:View attachment 148714View attachment 148715

That is the apex predator of firewood.

That's kinda what I was thinking. An Oh-Sh't moment. Glad it ended good. [emoji106]

Took the pic after brushing out the left side of it. kept spinning and sliding back as i trimmed more and more off. Didn't think to snap some pics until later. It actually went down pretty good considering I almost messed up the bore cut. Got my angle a little off on one side and had a bit of a thin hinge.

New member here. This was my third driveway blockage event of the winter, week before last. 80' black oak that brought a dead tanoak down with it. For scale, the bigger tree they are leaning against is about a 24" black oak. Used my little 345 which is my first and only saw since 1999.
