What gauge are you guys using? I want to try a couple new ones. Thanks
Me too, that's why I'm asking. Although a different height may be what I need.Tag.
I have the stihl version and I'm not happy with it.
Best answer, unless you can find a good old Carlton File-O-Plate.I think the Husqvarna roller guide is a good progressive raker gauge as well.

Here's one more pic . Best raker gauge you can buy.View attachment 169077 If you can find one of these old adjustable web saw jointers they work the best. And it is spot on accurate on both left and right side cutters. Just make sure to only use it on the same spot on the bar, mark that area on both sides(contour changes settings).
I set mine with a feeler gauge on the first depth gauge I file.
Progressive lowering??? Just round it out at .025" from new, .030" at half cutter size and .038"-.040" when filed back to the top plate witness marks.
This one?

It says not for use with skip chain.
Not familiar. Where does the wear occur?I use the husky plate on soft for all my depth gauges. They come in specific sizes but have used my 3/8ths on my 325 in a pinch and it worked alright. They wear out fast but have the best results imo.

This is the one I am speaking of. The wear occurs where the flat file runs, partially from excessive use but also I put to much pressure when filing. I've tried a lot of raker gauges and these are by far my favorite. Not familiar. Where does the wear occur?
You're talking about the gauge that is on the back of the roller and swivels out of the way?I think the Husqvarna roller guide is a good progressive raker gauge as well.
Pretty sure it needs 3 cutters and rakers to sit on to "level" itself out, or atleast 2. So skip would have to big a gap between the next tooth and it would just sit on 1 cutter and raker and sort of teeter totter up and down.Yep. Not sure why the skip tooth would matter. Note that they are pitch specific.
