I set it on a large socket in the pot, so that it’s heated by the air and not directly by the coals. We don’t want it to heat to quickly, or to get to hot.
Check it with the IR

Little bit longer. I shoot for 3-350

305 degrees dropped right in!

I set it on the cylinder for a place for the crank to go so I don’t need to hold it.

And a minor mishap...

I was gonna pull it off, but I thought it might be ok... whoops!

All better!

So again, this is where the transfers crack open

And BDC

I’m envisioning this and I see the mix in the crankcase and the mix above the piston windows as fairly stagnant and compressing as transfers crack, it’s the mix in between the two that then shoots sideways and up as the tunnels continue to BDC.

And so I’m thinking that the lip on the lowers that I always thought should be tapered for flow that I pictured coming up from the case, is not so important, in relative to that. If lowered it would however give more area for mix to enter. But is it necessary? Or is there already enough area, and we are just adding case capacity?

Does this mean you will add a gasket to get squish where u want it? Still learning here.

We have a few options Eric.
1.) use stock gasket which is .035
2.)add a gasket the thickness we need to get the squish we want
3.) sand the squish
4.) use a mandrel to cut it
5.) cut it on the lathe

Very cool method of planning this bad boy out, thanks for taking the time to do it. Looked like you have around 18* of blowdown in that exhaust pic. Any intention to work on the cylinder below the transfers to remove that little bit of obstruction?

Do you mean the floor of the lowers?

It wasn’t quite as hot as I wanted and it went 90 percent of the way, so I cinched it up with case bolts, and heard a pop as it went together.
Can anyone say why that is noteworthy?

Yes sir, the floor of the lowers.

Guessing the "pop" on assembly tells you that you should make sure the crank rotates freely because the bearings were getting side loaded. Just a guess
