For any of you that ever work with teak please use your PPG.
cover up exposed skin and use a resporator with good filters.
There isn't much documented on this Hazzard so decided to educate fellow miller's and wood workers.
Even if you sanding down teak yard furniture please be advised.

My for arms and one shoulder are burned up bad today.
Forgot my sleaves yesterday and paying the price today.
It is similar to a bad sun burn or chemical burn.
Water blisters will pop and scab up this week.

Fine partials will roast your lungs so mask up or it will shorten your lifespan.

Cortez another local hard wood here has similar affects. In fact worse but not a very common wood outside of Central America.

Play safe.

Good post. :clapclap:

We have stuff like the blackboy/grass tree (Xanthorrheoa).
Absolutely lethally carsonegenic.

Not my work, just sample pictures.

Don't know if it holds true for other species, but to work safely with this, need to soak in water for a week before turning.

My brother worked in a Redwood planer mill and had two big chunks of Redwood dust mixed with pot resin pulled out of his lungs.
Nasty

I ment a guy years ago who ended up in the hospital for 6 months.
Carpenter lung he called it.
Medical bill was 60 grand and he ended up living in poverty after this.
His story stuck with me.

Boys at the cedar mills in Canada used to tell me that red cedar was very bad and hooked in to the lungs.
I used to millwright / weld in these mills when the $ was good.
Always masked up after they told me about this.

I personally think all this dust is bad for us.

Truth is wearing mask all the time SUCKS!
On the sawmill or chainsaw I don't always use it but planer, tablesaw and sanding I always do.

3M makes a good one that cost about $20.
Pancake filters are light weight and last a long time.
Small investment on your health

Play safe.
