New Caber ring and base gasket delete. Squish ended up right @ .019

Comp should go up after the ring seats, I only ran it for a couple of minutes

Yes, it ran, Simon. Wasn't real snappy but it ran, idled and cut fine. Piston and cylinder look excellent, I didn't think to take a pic

Be real interested to hear your take on the decent shunt in comp you have on the 242...iv not played with more than a piston and ring change on any iv had. Two of my 42 specials have had a gasket del and a hike in comp and i was happy with the results.

I have not had the opportunity to run many 2 series saws, but I serviced a friends 268xp in very nice condition and I gotta say I was very surprised just how nice that saw was !
Enjoyed it just as much as any modern husky I've used
I actually told my friend if ever wants to sell it let me know, I would love to have that in my collection

You owe it to yourself to try a few 2xx series saws. I would recommend trying
242, 262, 288.

Modern saws might have the edge in AV but for pure enjoyment and performance its hard to beat 2xx series and ported they are even better.

My 288xp lacks nothing! Love that saw.

Somebody educate me on a 42 special? One for sale down the road.
quad open port design, squish a tad more tight compared to 242.
Clutch drum and rim sprocket is normally in one piece.
Wot is 15 k.
Everything else is the same as 242.

If Meteor 242 piston has the same crown height as 42 piston has it's the only quality AM piston, for 242 you have to go OEM.

A friend of me use 42 special, coke gasket, MM and half the key shaved off ;)
Buy the 42 special and do those simple modds and you will not regret :)

A few reference images for you Chris on top of the info Tor has put. The muffler mod is 70% aria of the exhaust port ..gives it a bit more snap off idle and the gasket del is a easy remove only on all the ones iv done. ...You get 19-20 thou it seems ....plus ...Photo0661.jpg Photo0631.jpg Photo0648.jpg Photo0650.jpg this sort of piston as well as windowed have been inside. Early ones have no de comp..later have.
