Porting The NE346XP

Looking for suggestions on porting, #s, tips and tricks on porting the 346!! Saw will be used with 16" Cannon LP bar with PS chain and used to cut up to 16" wood. Thanks guys

I've always wonder how much differents there is for porting an OE vs NE 346.

Im deleting the gasket, installing a 199 carb. I discussed #s with Mdavlee and Im lookin at 105 to 107 exhaust and 14 to 16 blowdown

I did 105/123-125/75 with gasket delete and stock carb. Some blending in the lower tranny's as well. Runs good!

Make sure you rework the tank vent. You need to passage the lower part of cylinder to get a good impulse signal if not using a base gasket.

Gut the vent? What exactly does passaging involve?

Pull the white vent out of the tank, disassemble the inside. Put white vent back in tank.


Does your saw have the primer bulb?

I'm working over a 346xp oe to a hyway 346xp 45mm right now, and will have video in the next couple weeks.

assuming you are going to keep an 020 squish somehow, I can actually give you dimensions of business cards for adjusting timing. you'll see in the vid...i'll make sure I include it

if you can swing the 357 359 intake tract, I'd say go for it....I haven't done one like that yet, but I ran Brad's saw at the CT gtg and it had a noticable advantage over mine, and at least some of that was due to the intake tract

Is the carb the hd199?

If that is all the bar you are going to run you may want some higher durations. Is this a limber, firewood saw or play saw?
I would likely be a little higher on the exhaust because I find it useful with a limber to have a little higher rev. if it was someones only saw for fire wood I may work to make it a little torquier. (im sure that a real word).
Everyone is different so what I am saying is tune this saw for what you will be doing.

I have done well at 105-106 ex, 121-125 trans and 78-80 intake. anywhere in that range has worked well for me.
