Ported Dolmar 421

I've been enjoying the thread on Drf255's WG 024/026 and other 40-50cc saws. This got me thinking, has anyone ported a 421? A lot of people have these little saws (and think highly of them) and besides muffler modding, anyone found gains porting one?

I'm not looking to compare a 421 to a 241 to a etc.... Just asking about porting.

If I need more power I have a 026 and 5100s I can drag out. Just want to see it anyone messed with this particular model.

At such a solid performer at a reasonable price. How much more would you have to get out of a 421 to justify putting another 75% of the cost back into it. I mean it is a $340.00 saw and would probably cost between $225- $275???

True, I wouldn't want to have $600 into a 421, however I'm still curious to what it could become.

With that being said, I probably have $20-25k into my Camaro (above the purchase price) and if I sold it today I might get $10k. I still think it's a blast though even though monetarily it is an awful investment (and it was all done before marriage)

I just ran mine today in some bar length wood after modding the muffler. It really impressed me, but I'm not sure the gains of porting would be worth the extra cost.

The best mod I made to mine performance wise was Stihl 3/8 lp PS chain.

I still have the oem on mine, but have some Oregon VXL I want to try. I'd like to try the PS too.

I had Nate change mine to .325 using the 5105 rim sprocket when I bought it. It runs very good with that too. Never tried it stock.

I've got the .325 parts also. Just haven't had time to play with it much.

Yeah, I don't like spurs either. I haven't got a .325 chain yet. I'm hoping we can get some higher quality bars available from Total.

@166 has a ported 420

randy did a 250, 420, redmax ??? a few years back and the 420 had pretty good gains. considering the 421 is a bit more hp than a 420 i wonder what is left in there to squeeze out

True, I wouldn't want to have $600 into a 421, however I'm still curious to what it could become.

The local dealer quoted me $625 for a MS-241. And, more than likely, the ported 421 would run all over a 241 to boot.
