The big plus on the MS 462 is the air injection.
The MS 462 air filter needs less cleaning, but at the moment the air filter on the MS 500i/661 hold the fines away but need to get cleaned 1-2 times a day.

the noodle on the butterfly came there right in the moment you took the filter off.
You can see it after you took the air filter cover off on the middle hole of that filter.

Yeah I can see the noodle sitting on top of the filter and it falls in when you remove it. It's hard to tell from the video but I don't see much of anything inside the filter. It still looks like the setup on the 462 is superior.

Good catch. I hadn't watched the vids close enough to catch that. I'm working on getting some of the others uploaded.

Not sure, Ed. Certainly a factor in cut speed. This pine is extremely dense when it's fresh. So much so that an axe will bounce off versus stick in the wood.

Due to our close proximity to the sea, these trees tend to get extremely resin rich. Those cookies are going in the fatwood pile.

Yep over there you ll delay due to resin and knots. But pretty awesome smell.

I can also vouch that 462 oils even 36inch without pin pushed.
Something might bloked your pump or new bar. Good solution the diesel run there. You should be good to go with the oil pump.

Whether the dust and debris comes through the filter or drops in on filter removal (like this example) it's still an issue that can be looked at, addressed and improved upon in design.

My father was always religious about his routine at every fuel up and the first part of that routine was taking a brush and clearing as much junk as possible from around the oil and fuel caps.

after some oiling issues my routine is similar.

The filter design leaves room for improvement but there are routines and modifications that can help.

I've heard really good feedback about the 462 oiler. My experience with it was positive as well. My 500i wasn't oiling well right out of the box.

Flushing the lines and running it with a very thin oil mix seemed to help the issue. It oils decent now with a 28".

Are you going to take it back to the dealer? Oiling a 28 decent is a long way from oiling a 36, which is what some of the videos of the 500 show it pulling buried in beech.

I'll start chatting him up today and let him know I've got a problem. I'd prefer he just gives me an oil pump, if possible. Great retail person, but not good for maintenance.

First cut from yesterday. Vids taken with a small action camera...ROAM 2+.

Oiling issue was still not resolved in this vid. I had to take the bar off and clean it with WD-40. Without oil in this pine the sap will bind up and the friction on the chain kills performance.

Yes. The air injection would be a very nice addition to this saw. If Stihl offers an AV, spikes and filter upgrade for the 500i, it'll be a go to saw for me.

You did good flushing them. Still strange for a new saw
However enjoy your new toy!

I've got more vids to process. I had a problem with the water heater last night. In the meantime....some chain pic to show what I'm talking about with the oiler.

The dust and sap is caking to the sides of the links on the far right chain, middle is a little better and the right was the last chain I used.

And, I got a present from my dealer today....video uploading now. Can somebody roll a 7?

The question for me is.....If Stihl have a form of "Air Injection" or "Centrifugal forced Air induction " (depending in the patents and terms ) on the 462 and decided not go with it on the 500i ...how come and why not.
