I have truly enjoyed reading this thread and it's made me consider an 500i only think that both worried me and gave me a laugh was when you said the motor ran in reverse.

I was watching a review of a ms500i and it looks like the air filter wasn't working on it either. I took a screen shot and attached it.

The guy put more hours and fuel through that saw in 3 months than many of us here would put through in a lifetime.
I wonder how the machine was compensating for the dirty air filter? It still ran well. I would have liked to see the piston and jug.

I've seen nothing with either MTronic or this 500i to suggest that anything needs re-programmed.
I haven't seen anything on programming either. I need to read the concrete saw manual in English to see if there is any reset procedure.

How many times are you pumping the primer before starting? I haven't read the manual but have been pumping 8 times.

8-10 pumps.

I just watched the vid today. Good to see it tested on a regular working basis. I've ran mine pretty hard, but haven't ran it in a week or so.

I'm up to around 20 tanks of fuel....15+ liters. Besides the minor things I've noted, the saw is really impressive.

Only thing I really noticed was the short bar. Big saw with short (looked like a 20") bar

Normally there is no need to reprogram anything if it is running like it should. Fact is, it is possible (technically). (See the racing version for the Waldarbeiter Meisterschaften used in Norway 2018, STIHL did it there)

For what it's worth, Jeff, I think the 500 and 462 are short bar saws. I believe they are Stihl's version of the 371/372 and 375XP.

They are fast, lightweight and agile. The perfect balance for the 500i is around a 24-25. They run the long bar and oil it well.

I think of the analogy of a small truck towing a big trailer...sooner or later something is going to wear out or break.

That’s the best summary I have seen yet. Agree with ya 110%. 375 isn’t really any faster than a 50mm with short bar, but it sure grunts a bit better with bigger bar. Same for the 500i over a 462.

Do you guys know if the 500i has a different oil pump than the 462? I was cutting up some oak last weekend and I noticed the 25" light bar on my 462 was getting quite warm.

Same oil pump. I agree with Mason, push the pin in and see how it does.

There’s a pin that limits travel of the screw. Tap it in flush and the screw can be turned out a little more. I dont have any pictures of it unfortunately. I’m sure someone on here has a picture of it.
