I did mine the same way that Al did for the 034Super cylinder he did for me. It’s not loud and it must not hurt flow because that thing rips. Way way way ahead of the 036 he had done for me. Granted that’s not just due to the muffler.

Got a few more tanks through it today. It's really running good now. Tons of torque.

Ran Ole Herc today too. Boy that beast has got some grunt.

That sure is a good-looking 395 you got thar...

It is a damn fine one, JJ. I dropped about six Stihl mount bars off at the machine ship to be notched an additional 2.5mm to accomodate the Huskies.

Finally got a decent size bar on it. It's a beast I tell you. You put together a dandy saw and Mike added the venom.

I've only done a few MT saw mufflers. A few 261's, a couple of 241's, and a couple of 362's. They all performed far better the more open the exhaust was. One impressed me so much I did a before and after comparison, and showed how open the muffler was in the video. The only issue is noise. If you are an urban cutter, that's a bit of a drag. But outdoors, with ear protection, it never bothered me.

Updates, updates, updates....the tale of running a high tech saw forwards and backwards. Yes, backwards.

So, I fired up the 500i after it I had ran it for a while yesterday. It was about 88f and the saw had sat in the sun for a bit.

Since there is no High Idle or choke on these, the chain is never spinning until the operator actuates the trigger. It rumbled to life.

I let it run a for a few seconds and then hit the trigger. Low and behold, the chain spun backwards. Not sure if it has done this before.

It ran quite crappy for another 30 seconds and died. On the next restart, it regained it's orientation and ran in the right direction.

Fishy stuff. I'm wondering what can cause it to run backwards. I've often noticed that on an initial start it will run and die. Never noticed the chain spin backwards though. :roto2nuse:

I've got some investigating to do. Any thoughts?

2 stroke can run backwards but normally you have to spin the starter backwards to do it. Maybe the spark is very advanced on startup and it caught while the saw was spinning kind of slow and just pushed the piston back down rather than it finishing going up.

I think these coils retard for start up, could it be that it stayed in the advance mode this one time? Did it bite ya at all when you started it?

Hey Dan. Are both 500i and 7900 stock in your vids?
