Here's one I saw when in Vancouver last month. No real sign of a hinge, crane lift maybe?

I cut one that looked like that. The owner of the land I cut on hooked a 100ft cable onto the tree and put tension on the tree told me to start the back cut and then he pulled it over. The part that normally had the face cut peeled down to the ground.

A contractor for the power company came through and cut all the trees down like this no matter how big the tree was. I don't know why they would do it this way. 20170319_191227.jpg

Maybe they didn't know what the hell they were doing. Unless it was done with a machine that happens to cut on that angle?

That's a kwik trim or jarraff cut. 24inch circular blade on a boom running about. 11000rpm

He just let that one fly. His bar was also too short to make it in one cut

I came across this stump today. Looks like they cut it all at an angle but the back cut was higher than the face cut so there was a hinge. 20170324_173317.jpg

A lot of people slope the back cut. It's incorrect. But done often none the less
