Is it worth advancing the timing on my friends 046 after I get the new cylinder and polish the ports? Poly flywheel if it makes a difference.

I did a dp muff cover on my brother's MS460, and it did not seem to make much difference. Then I advanced the timing (.020 off the key) and it really came alive. It is also running a HD-2 air filter.

I would definitely recommend a timing advance on any modified (including muff mod) 046/460.

Just like with the old cars, if you let more air in, and more air out (improve the flow) a timing advance usually works well in conjunction with those mods.

What type of mill do you use to slab?

Awesome cuts there.

I have 3 grandberg mills, 30",48" and a 72" double ended. Powered with either my 075 or 090. Only thing I need now is a 50"+ large mount stihl bar so I don't have to drag my 72" as much. Not that I take it out lots but most times my middle mill would do if I had longer bar. Almost 14' of chain on large one.

Forgot to ask but I suppose I need another flywheel puller. I have the double sided one for most of the older aluminum flywheel saws and the one for small saws like the 200t for working on my friends climbing saws

If you have the double sided one that should work

The 044, 440, 046, 460 all use the same one. The 066/660 is larger.

For anyone who does not have one, I think HL Supply currently has em on sale for under $10!!! I paid more than twice that, but it was well worth it.

If memory serves me right, it does not work on the 024, 029 or 362.
