All depends where you are and whatnot. Some places run hardwood, some run soft.

I'd rather run in soft. Hardwood takes a toll on chains

I looked up where you live on google maps. You are only about about 10 hours north of me (depending on the condition of the logging roads lol!) You are waaaaay up there!

Looks like Poplar to me. Some might call it Aspen in other areas of N.A. No shortage of Poplar trees in the Canadian Shield.

Australian Ironbark is as hard as hells bells. It really takes its toll on chains. Full chisel chains go from sharp to blunt in a couple of minutes!
