Square is superior to round.
Faster.
Smoother.
Longer lasting.
Depends on what oil you use.

That applies to your caliber of saw work, it's no advantage for service guys like me.
To each is own.
Hey, why are there so many donut shops in RI? Seems like one on every corner.
LMAO. But not true.
My closest 3 dealers are an hour trip no matter which way I go. That’s why I buy it by the roll and spin my own now. It’s not cheaper, but I can spin plenty in the time it takes me to drive there and back.Cool. I know the guy. About a 45 minute ride for me. Thanks.
Just a shame that I have 2 close by that really are not up on their new stuff. I know more than they do. AND I don't know Jack. Lol
Most the loggers here run square ground, and all have grinders, 90% run 32” bars and file up a bunch of chains! Some guys hand file in the field, but a lot of crews have a guy grind everyone’s chain.I feel you are in the minority, most loggers around here have never even heard of a square ground chain.
They will not sell to me on East Coast for some reason.
The same story here - round is the only thing stocked. Two dealers I use give you a “go to hell” look when you ask about square, but one dealer will order it for you.
I guess I'm lucky I have a good relationship with the guys I buy from, they will order whatever I want at anytime, that blows some of you guys have dealers that are such dicks.
That's me I went from 2 great dealers to 1 *s-wordty one.I guess I'm lucky I have a good relationship with the guys I buy from, they will order whatever I want at anytime, that blows some of you guys have dealers that are such dicks.
Tree Monkey was spot on.how long square lasts seems to depend on how it's ground/filed.
Stihl square grind seems to vary, thus I've got different results over the years trying to figure out how long it lasts vs stihl's round ground RS.
I will repeat something that @tree monkey told me. And it'll make you think. Here it is: Scott, "Square lasts longer, but round ground cuts better and longer when it's dull."
Rolls of stihl chain which I've ordered, used, tested, sold...
