I have been sitting on a decent mine of 2-series parts including this 272.

Bit of background on it. I bought if running for $80, took it home, looked down the muffler and saw a decent amount of transfer. I removed the transfer and put a hyway piston in it. Cut with it and it was throwing sparks. Took a look again and the piston was scuffed. Tore it down and was a little confused. Looking into the cases it seems like there is some cancer around the bearing pockets, must have been pulling material in through the combustion is my only guess. I havent split the cases, but I may later on.

I sat on it for a while until HL supply had their cyber Monday sale. They had OEM Husqvarna 272 case sets with bearings and bar studs for 120ish bucks. However they were put of stock. I sent @Gentleman a PM, and he said he would order me what I wanted and honoured the sale price. Great guys to do business with.

Sorry for the rant. Here are some pics

I have a keyed fine thread flywheel from a 61 I dropped a tree on that I think I will use. That leaves me with the option to use a coil spring clutch that is original to the 272 I have, or a new style hyway clutch that I bought a while ago. What do you guys think is best for the build?

That being said, got some prep work done on the cases. Installed the oil tank vent and all the grommets

Also cleaned up the crank I am going to use. This came out of my low hour late model 61. Cleaned up real nice with a little Scorch bright.

Got the seal installed. Had the stock depth to go by. Set into the groove 2 or 3mm

Flywheel is cleaned and installed

Coil installed. Used the top of the bag of gaskets as a spacer. It's about the thickness of a business card.

Fan shroud installed. This is the old style for the older coil, just needed to trim the area around the coil with a razor blade

Back at it today with some parts in.

Seal tapped into the back of the oil pump to match stock tolerance.

I usually use a thin sheet of plastic, stole this from a light bulb package. Grease it up and roll it over the crank. Helps slide the seal into place without rolling the seal on the step up

Oil pump in place

Washer, then worn gear, the a brand new dust cap.

One aftermarket part on this saw will be a muffler as all mine are dented or rusted out. I will be using the stock deflector to pop a hole in the oem spot, to make dd to the little pea shooter they come with.

Thoughts on size? Similar to the original?

Is that notch on the lower portion of the deflector factory?

To be honest I am not sure. It looks clean, but the muffler it came off took a good smack from a tree, but I dont think it would have done anything like that. The guy I got that saw off of didn't seem like the muffler hacking type.
