I have a 95 with about 225k and a 97 with 396k both have been bullet proof and I still like the seats in that body style better than any other including current fords.

Damn I'm glad I don't hafta equate these implements on my truck to push and get rid of snow. I don't know a whole lot about these plows and stuff but it's got to be some pricey chit. Hats off to you fellers who have to do this.

Love the Boss plow!

Have owned 3 different ones. Northman, Meyer, Boss.
Boss is the top IMHO, pizz on meyer.

I have been pleased with the plow. I would buy another.

I need to build some new sides for my flatbed - it's on my list of things to do. I would like to use 5/4 lumber to reduce the weight and build them higher. I'd like to make provisions to run bows on top so I can run a tarp when needed.

The sides double as ramps when I am loading firewood rounds off a side hill on the fire roads. I have had several guys stop an compliment me on my MacGyver-ish engenuity. I always say, work smarter, not harder!

That's pretty much the way my flatbed dump is set up.
Would like to engineer a tailgate though.V__A0F6.JPG

To function how? Like a pickup truck, like a dump truck, like barn doors, or just a board with channel that drops in the stake pockets so you can lift in/out?

I have an end panel that drops in those pockets. What I'm thinking is something like a standard landscape bed endgate. But with the uprights remove able. Just unbolt the whole thing and lift it off and be back to a true flatbed.

Not to mention incorporating a grain door from a Midwest bed that I already have. Don't want much do I ?

I'll bet the valve seals are bad.

When does it burn oil? On startup and when you shift gears? Or just a steady stream of blue smoke.
start up and shifting gears. holds good oil pressure about 35 psi hot idling.

Valve seals.'70's Ford specific issue. Doesn't probably need an overhaul.
judging by how black the oil gets after a change i would say it wouldn't hurt it.

There's some guys on here that are really up on FE Ford engines I'm not one of them. My old boss in college ran two or three of them. We ran the snot out of those trucks. Long hauls pulling 30 foot goosenecks loaded with livestock. Three ton of horse feed in the bed, stuff like that. Don't remember them using oil.

Are 390 parts still obtainable? They are definitely runners when they are

Still running an FE Ford, have my whole life, nothing makes a better truck motor. Biggest issue with them today is the exhaust seats with today's fuel. You can do the seals on the motor by putting air to the cylinder, I would put a straight edge across the top of the valve stems first, if they are not all even, might as well pull the heads and take them to a machine shop for new seats along with a valve job. Usually the valves themselves hold up good, the bottom end of these motors hold up pretty good as well.
